  13. Anchorage Lessons Learned Elongated low pressure systems, that are not deepening, tend to produce only small amounts of precipitation away from the coast. The offshore component of the wind is crucial to precipitation type and amount in southern Alaska Despite a pronounced pressure gradient, it is also the change of the PGF with time that makes strong winds and also high gusts.
