The fun Begins! • M&M’s at your table, please take five for yourself. • Want as many as possible so do not eat  • Select one of the cards at your table, this is your role • Road to the Revolution and War Road Map • Jeopardy game • Write down your answer (or in your head) • Keep track of own points

  3. Taxation Simulation • Tax time! • Colonists pay into taxes – taxes go into the cup in the middle of table. • Each time this symbol appears, a tax will be imposed. • Parliament selects the type of tax from a pile of cards. • The Tax Collector collects the tax collection cups at the end.

  4. Welcome to the American Revolution! Summary of 5th Grade Unit: • This unit is designed to introduce and expand students’ learning about the American Revolution. Students will interpret and analyze various resources, will employ several intelligences and will activate most, if not all, levels of Bloom’s taxonomy to complete assessments and tasks that focus on significant historical figures and events (cause and effect) of the revolution. • The unit will be conducted during the second semester so that students will have had practice working in groups, using organizers, writing in various forms, and oral presentations. This will allow students to reference previous knowledge and skills necessary to complete their performance assessments and tasks.

UbD Plan Stage 1 • Social Studies Standard B: History • B.8.1: variety of sources • B.8.2: cause-and-effect relationships of events influencing past and present • B.8.3: relationships between and among significant events • B.8.4: Different perspectives • B.8.7: significant events and people in major eras • B.8.10: analyze examples of conflict, cooperation, and interdependence • Understandings: • Immigration, taxation, freedom, cause/effect (action/reaction), different perspectives

  6. Stage 1 – Essential Questions: • Why do people abandon their homes and allegiances to settle in another location? A.R. – What caused people to leave Britain and settle in the colonies? • How does a conflict, revolution or war develop/occur? A.R. – What were the actions and reactions that caused the Road to Revolution and war? • What does freedom mean and why do people try to attain it? A.R. – Why did the Patriots decide to revolt against Britain? • Do people have different perspectives? If yes, explain. A.R. – What were different perspectives of historical figure involved in A.R.?
