  2. Let’s Review Our Vocabulary: • Entrepreneur: • A person who starts or organizes a business. • Innovative: • Something new, original, or groundbreaking that people want.

  4. Do you agree with this statement? Why or why not?

  5. Why is working together as a team so important to being successful in business?

  6. Today you will learn about the importance of teamwork in the successful operation of a business. Did you remember to sit with your business team?

  7. Working Together • Each member of your team has skills and talents.

  8. It’s important to use everyone’s skills and talents. That’s the way to be the best team you can be.

  9. “Teamwork” is the cooperative effort of members of a group to achieve the same goal.

  10. Have you ever been on a winning team of any kind?

  11. What is it that made your team successful?

  12. There is no “I” in “teamwork”. What does this saying mean?

  13. In order to work effectively as a team, everyone needs to be committed to working together to accomplish the same overall goal.

  14. Please open your workbook to page 68. You will have two minutes to work silently alone to come up with the names of as many businesses as you possibly can. • Ready?............... • Go!

  15. Which member of your team came up with the most names? Stop!

  16. Now combine your team members’ lists to one master list and count how many businesses your team thought of together. Some of you may have thought of the same businesses. Just count that business once.

  17. It’s interesting to notice the different team strategies for making a master list. Which team was done first?

  18. Which list is longer, the list of your top individual, or the team’s combined list?

  19. “The whole is greater than the sum of its parts.” What does this mean?

  20. The goal of every business team is to have a well run business, where every employee gets along well with each other.

  21. Let’s review the five steps of SMART decision making: • Stop and think about your options. • Make a plan before deciding. • Ask questions and consider consequences. • Reflect. • Take action.

  22. Please turn to page 69 in your workbook. Your task as a business team is to use the SMART system to come up with a solution to the problems on your Business Dilemma Worksheet.

  23. What were some of your solutions?

  24. Well done! You will be using the SMART system at JA Biztown to come up with innovative solutions to the dilemmas you may face throughout the day.

  25. Please turn to page 70 in your workbook and complete the Word Map.
