  1. Junior Achievement 6.2 “Are You Ready Yet?”

  2. Let’s Review Vocabulary: • Loan Application: • An application to borrow money. • Promissory Note: • A written promise to repay a specified sum of money at a stated time. • Interest: • The amount paid for the use of someone else’s money.

  3. “Action springs not from thought, but from a readiness for responsibility.” - Dietrich Bonhoeffer

  4. Do you agree with this statement? Why or why not?

  5. Why is it important to practice something new as much as you can before you actually have to do it?

  6. Today you will be making your final preparations for your visit to JA BizTown. Please sit with your business team and have your Business Workbook with you.

  7. Why do you think it might be important to use advertising in your business?

  8. Let’s take a look at some catchy slogans from some famous businesses. Can you guess which business uses each slogan? (Turn to page 69 in your workbook to follow along.)

  9. “What’s in your wallet?”

  10. “Obey Your Thirst”

  11. “We bring good things to life.”

  12. General Electric

  13. “We think outside the bun.”

  14. “Be all you can be.”

  15. “It’s in the Game”

  16. “Get N or Get Out”

  17. “It’s not just for breakfast anymore.”

  18. Orange Juice

  19. “Be a Pepper”

  20. “Silly rabbit….”

  21. These are all very successful advertisements, or you wouldn’t remember them. They encourage you to spend your money on a good or service. An advertisement is a public promotion of a good or service.

  22. It’s time for you to work together to develop advertisements that you will use to promote your business. Please fill out the advertisement forms in your Business Workbook.

  23. Now that you have created your advertisements, it’s time to receive your official checkbook for JA Biztown.

  24. During each of your two breaks at JA BizTown, you will receive no more than $2.00 in JA BizTown cash during each deposit. You can use this cash to buy snacks, a newspaper, or make a donation to a “philanthropy”. (You write checks for other purchases.)

  25. What’s a Philanthropy?

  26. Philanthropy involves giving money or other resources to charities, non-profit organizations, or other groups. • You may have noticed that your business gives philanthropically. There is a line item on your Business Costs worksheet for philanthropy. Your business donates money, and you, as an individual, can too.

  27. Now please complete your first deposit ticket. It’s a good idea to do this now, before you go to JA BizTown. Remember, you can’t take out more than $2.00 in cash per deposit.

  28. Please write your name on each check and deposit ticket in your checkbook, too. Do this now, so you won’t have to remember each time you want to use your checkbook.

  29. It’s time to check off each task on your Ready For Success Worksheet. Please turn to page 90 in your workbook.

  30. Finally, let’s look at a typical day at JA BizTown. (transparency 6-2b)

  31. We have a few more days until our visit to Junior Achievement BizTown. You may continue to work with your teacher to finish your Business Workbooks if needed, and to make sure your checklist is complete. Congratulations!
