  2. Captain E.J. Smith • The Titanic was Captain E.J. Smith's retirement ship. • Captain Smith was born on January 24th 1850. • He was married to Sarah Eleanor Pennington in July of 1887.

  3. Construction • Watertight compartments - Titanic was built with 16 different watertight compartments. These compartments must be enclosed at all times. • Boilers - in the titanic there were 24 double ended boilers and 5 single ended boilers. These were in 6 different boiler rooms. The double ended boilers were 20 feet long and the single ended boilers were 11 feet 9 inches long. • Funnels - titanic had 4 funnels. The fourth one was used to make the ship look even more powerful. • Propellers - titanic had 3 propellers that powered the ship through the sea. • The titanic was launched in 1912

  5. Ticket prices • First class: $4,350 (price of finest 1st class suite) • Second class:1,750 • Third class: $30 • Today these prices would be much more than what they were then.

  6. Lifeboats • The titanic carried a total of 20 lifeboat • Each lifeboats had a capacity of 65 people. • There was so few lifeboats because the titanic was known to be "unsinkable"

  7. Survivors or not? • 2,220 people were on board of the titanic. • Only 711 people were rescued • 1,490 people died • If the titanic would have had enough lifeboats for every passengers, more people would have survived the titanic.
