  3. INTRODUCTION WORK PLACE PLACE WHERE THE PERSONS ENGAGED OR HAVE A WORK . PLACE INCLUDES BUILDING ,SITE ,HOSPITAL , MINE ,MOBILE VEHICLE etc. WORK PLACE SAFETY- WORK PLACE SHOULD BE SAFE FROM ANY ENVIRONMENTAL ,BIOLOGYCAL ,CULTURAL,PHYSICAL ,CHEMICAL,OR PSYCHOLOGICAL HAZARDS EITHER IN CLINICAL OR COMMUNITY AREA.

  4. 1.ENVIRONMENTAL HAZARD • REPORT SAYS- • 12% OF NURSES – LEAVE THE PROFESSION DUE TO BACK INJURIES. • CAUSES – • #STANDING THROUGH OUT HOURS . • ROAD • #ALLERGY-DUST , POLLEN , FOUL SMELL. • #ROAD TRAFFIC ACCIDENT

  5. PREVENTIONS • #USE OF SHOUES WITH GOOD SOLES. #PERSONAL PROTECTIVE KIT #USING HIGHT ADJUSTING WORK SURFACE . #TRAFFIC RULE SHOULD BE FOLLOWED

  6. 2. PHYSICAL HAZARDS CAUSES: 1.ELECTRICITY-( SHOCK, SHORT CIRCUIT LOSS OF POWER) 2. EUIPMEMT- DEFIBRILLATORS 3.WET FLOOR – (SLIP, TRIP,& FALLS.) 4.RADIATION –(X-RAYS ,LASERS.) 5. FIRE *COMBUSTABLE –(CHEMICAL,ALCOHOL ,SPIRIT.) * ENERGY SOURCE-LASER.

  7. 6. NEEDLE STICK INJURIES- • HAZARDS- • #IMPROPER HANDLING & DISPOSAL OF NEEDLE . • #UNSAFE NEEDLE DEVICE. • PREVENTIONS– • 1.KNOWING THE ESCAPE ROUTE & EVACUATION AREA. • 2.CLEAN UP FLOOR . • 3.KEEP AWAY FROM OBSTRUCTION . • 4.APPROPRIATE NEEDLE CONTAINER FOR DISPOSAL .(RED CONTAINER )

  8. 3.BIOLOGICAL HAZARDS • BIOLOGICAL AGENT SPREAD BY • -CONTACT • -INHALATION • -SPLASHES OR PERCUTANEOUS INJURIES-NEEDLE STICKS ,CUT FROM SHARP . • -EXPOSURE TO BLOOD & FLUID –HOLES & TEAR IN GLOVES . • EXAMPLES : • MICROORGANISM TRANSMISSION . • BLOOD BORN PATHOGENS.

  9. PREVENTIONS: • UNIVERSAL PRECAUTIONS • #PROTECTIVE BARRIERS- • GLOVES ,FACEMASKS • #PROPER HAND WASHING . • #REDUCING CHANCE OF CROSS- INFECTIONS:FROM NURSE TO PATIENT ,PATIENT TO NURSE,ONE PATIENT TO ANOTHER PATIENT

  10. 4.CHEMICAL HAZARDS • CAUSES- • 1.STERILISING AGENT (HCHO , ALCOHOL ,NITROUS OXIDE) • 2.LATEX ALLERGY(USE OF GOOD QUALITY GLOVES) • 3.WASTE GASES • 4.DISINFECTANT (PHENOL) • PREVENTION • #EFFECTIVE VENTILATION • #LEAKAGE OF GAS AVOIDED. • #RECYCLING (BETTERY , COMPUTER) • #BIOMEDICAL WASTE MANAGEMENT .

  11. 5.PSYCHOLOGICAL HAZARDS • CAUSES- • 1.SHORTAGE OF NURSING PERSONNEL. • 2.EXTERNAL PRESSURE • #PERSONAL CONFICTS • #PATIENT PRESSURE • #LACK OF COMMUNICATION • #LACK OF STAFF • 3.WORK PLACE VIOLENCE (ICU) • 4.WORK PLACE STRESS (CARDIOVASCULAR DISEASES , SUISIDE , CANCER , ULCER)

  12. PREVENTION • 1.OVER WORK LOAD AVOIDED. • 2.SECURITY MANAGEMENT PROGRAMME (ICU). • 3.INTERVENTION MEASURES-(VERBAL , SOCIAL ,PHYSICAL)

  13. PREVENTION BY NATIONAL POLICY ON SAFETY ,HEALTH & ENVIRONMENT AT WORK PLACE #CAMPAIGN BY SHARING EXPERIENCE& LEARNING. #BY MAKING FORUM . #BY ENCOURAGING JOINT LABOUR MANAGEMENT #BY PROVIDING MEDICAL CRITERIA- #BY APPROPRIATE REPORTING OF SUCH INCIDENCE
