  1. Digital Technology

  2. Digital Technology in research and planning • Use of internet to research and plan: How did you use these sites? Did you use any others? Did you use any other digital technology to aid your research and planning (for instance animatic storyboards)? The blog is digital technology- how did this aid your planning and research? How did all this enhance your coursework project?

  3. Digital Technology in production • Use of digital cameras: Canon Legria FS306 JVC HDV 720p (in the studio) Tricaster (vision mixing in the studio)

  4. Canon Legria • Instant play back allows you to review your footage and re-film if necessary. • Small and portable • Able to store lots of video files on memory card • Converting and editing lots and lots of files can be problematic- emphasises the need to plan filming carefully

  5. JVC HDV 720p • High quality HD footage • Not portable- studio only!

  6. Tricaster • Allows “on the fly” editing in the studio during the performance. • Allows creative editing decisions to be made during performance. • Can be limiting during post production- edits made in the studio cannot be undone later

  7. Digital Technology in production • What skills did you develop with this technology? • How did it help you with your coursework? • Give specific examples

  8. Digital technology in post- production Final Cut Pro • Digital video editing on Final Cut Pro gives you lots of creative options for improving the quality of your work • Digital editing allows you to experiment- you can try numerous ways of ordering your sequence and numerous effects and transitions- if something doesn’t work you can ‘undo’ it- this experimentation can lead to a great deal of creativity.

  9. Sound editing on FCP (More relevant to AS Film Opening) • Adjusting sound levels • Importing soundtracks • Audio transitions • Sound bridges • J cuts and L cuts

  10. Video editing on FCP • Frame-by-frame precision editing • Cutting and trimming clips • Layering clips • Altering opacity levels to blend clips together • Transitions • Effects • Using titles • Continuity editing • Montage editing

  11. Final Cut Pro tutorials *This also links in to ideas about how the internet aids creativity through people sharing knowledge and ideas on sites such as Youtube • http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pPYjBHhUQZM&feature=related (Pleasantville effect) • http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5MgXAw56YCg&feature=related (Sin City effect) • http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aX0J-rehgV8&feature=related (7 best transitions)

  12. What skills did you develop with the Final Cut Pro technology? • How did it help you with your coursework? • How did it make you more creative? • Give specific examples
