  1. “The Road Not Taken”By: Robert Frost 2/12/14

  2. Title • The title suggests an abandoned road which leads to a place that is undesirable or unpleasant that is why it is not taken

  3. Paraphrase Two roads split in the woods I could not go down both I am only one person I stood there a while And I looked down one as far as I could To where it turned then I looked at the other it was just as good But it had a slightly better landscape Because it had a lot of grass and needed to be walked But they have both been used about the same Both looked the same that morning There wasn’t a single step in the leaves I saved the first for another day I know how paths take you away I doubted if I would ever see it again I will tell this sadly Some time from now I took the one less traveled And that has made all the difference

  4. Connotation • The poem expresses the choices people make in their life’s and the regret they feel • Repetition- the poem repeats “Two roads diverged in a wood” this is done to illustrate to the reader that choices have to be made and can not be avoided • Point of view- the poem is told through first person this is done to make the poem more relatable and to make it feel not so distant • Symbolize- the two paths symbolize the choices that people are faced with and how they can not be avoided

  5. Shifts • The poem shifts from the recollection to the evaluation in the final stanza. The speaker is evaluating the choice he made and if he made the right one.

  6. Title • The title suggests choices and how it’s hard to stray away from the beating path. Society expects everyone to conform or to act a certain way. The title might also allude to the speaker’s childhood and how he choses to take a different path then those who grew up with him

  7. Theme • The speaker is talking about two paths which symbolize choices. Even though taking the one that is not the norm is a bit of a risk in the end breaking away from conformity isn’t really a bad thing. “I took the one less traveled”

  8. What it reminds me off • This poem reminds me of “Drive” by Incubus besides the fact that the song is called drive and we are talking about roads, the song talks about the choices made and how to make right one as does the poem • *sorry I didn’t put in a link its not letting me do it on this one I don’t know why but it’s late have no idea what to to*
