  1. Ritz formula helped estimate the frequencies of the spectral lines in the spectra of all atoms.A Swiss physicist Walther Ritz resolved the relationship between the spectral lines of the atom in terms of their frequencies in 1908 and named it as Rydberg-Ritz combination theory. Ritz combination principle γ1 γ2 γ3 New line Ritz principle It explains the theory behind the spectral lines of the atoms with their frequencies or wavenumbers. As spectral energies are directly proportional to frequencies or wavenumbers of emitted light radiations, the Rydberg-Ritz combination principle helps in estimating the photon energy changes during an electron transition. Hence, it provides an approximate idea of the electron arrangement and their behavior in the atom. Practical significance The electron transition from n=2 to n=3 gives hydrogen-alpha spectral line. The electron transition from n=2 to n=4 gives hydrogen-beta spectral line. The electron transition from n=3 to n=4 gives Paschen-alpha spectral line. Hydrogen-alpha Hydrogen-beta Paschen-alpha spectral line Both are same in Ritz principle Blog: https://jayamchemistrylearners.blogspot.com/
