  1. SNAP Assistance SNAP – Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (formerly Food Stamps) Description: Helps low-income households pay for food. Benefit amounts vary by household size and income. Eligibility: • Resident of Indiana • Household income is at/below 130% of FPL • Household assets (does not include home, furniture, etc. or cars used for daily transportation needs) cannot exceed $2000 (or $3250 for a household with a disabled person or senior) • Persons with a previous drug felony are not eligible for SNAP but their income counts as part of the household income, which may lower the amount the family is eligible to receive. • Documented children can get SNAP benefits, even if their parent(s) are not legally in the country

SNAP Assistance • Average Indiana household monthly SNAP benefit = $295.59 (Nov. 2012) • You can apply online • Interviews can be conducted over the phone or in person • Monthly benefits are automatically added to an EBT card, which works like a debit card with a pin number. • You can only use SNAP benefits to purchase certain foods (tobacco, alcohol, household goods/paper products not included)
