General Aspects • control of the production and the commercialization of beverages, wines, products of grape and wine, spirit vinegar and wine vinegar; • the fiscalization is restricted to a federal scope and is under the responsibility of The Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Food Supply – MAPA;

  4. General Aspects • representation in all the State Units of the Federation (27 Units – UF’s); • some UF’s have regional and local units, it will depend on the amount of establishments to be fiscalized and on the reaching area under responsibility of the respective Unit of the Federation;

General Aspects • agreement between the federal agency and the state agency in order to enable the realization of the activities of the inspection: • For example: area of wines and products of grape and wine in the State of Rio Grande do Sul, main producing State of wines in the Brazilian Territory.

  6. General Aspects • Net of laboratories that based on the nature of its authorisation can realize different kinds of analysis of beverages: • Microbiological; • physical-chemical; • Residues and contaminants; and • Isotopical.

  7. Attributions • the federal technical competent sector of the MAPA is responsible for: • the normalization of the beverage sector in the technological aspect. • Production • Classification • Standardization • Inspection • Registration • Fiscalization

  8. Attributions • Elaboration of Technical Regulations relative to the standards of identity and quality of beverages; • Register of products and producing establishments or drink manufacturers, standardizers, bottlers, wholesalers, exporters and importers;

Attributions • Elaboration of Technical Regulations related to the landmark of geographic zones of production of grapes, wines, products of grape and wine; • Inspection, fiscalization and certification of producing establishments aiming at to assure its quality, conformity, traceability and security;

Attributions • Elaboration of operational and technical norms referring to the inspection and fiscalization of: • Establishments; • processes and products; • Equipment; • methods and universalized models of quality control of the production systems. • Monitoring and control of residues and contaminants • Beverage certification

  11. Attributions • Technical and operational Auditorship pertinent to the activities of beverage inspection: • Sanitary Standard of Operational Procedures - SSOP; • Good Manufacture Practices - GMP's; • Hazard Analysis of Critical Points of Control – HACCP;

  12. Attributions • Adoption and implementation of the deriving norms of international organisms and foruns; • Representation of the sector in national and international foruns; • Elaboration of institucional technical publications related to the beverage sector;

  13. Numbers • the sector is constituted by approximately: • 8,000 industries; and • 70,000 registered products. • Federal Inspectors (FFA) - 106 • Numbers of 2010: • Inspections - 3,577 (establishments); • Aprehensions - ~14 million liters; • Fine - + 4 million (reais); • Conformity index – 70% (products).
