[2] "Honor your father and mother," which is the first commandment with promise: [3] "that it may be well with you and you may live long on the earth." Parents Are To Be Honored • Truly love their children. • Respect the child’s needs and desires. • Are consistent . . . • Discipline in a manner that is fair . . . • Practice what they teach . . .   12. Parents Are Responsible For Training Their Children • Children are a heritage of the Lord – Ps. 127:3 • Stewardship implies responsibility - 1 Sam 2:29, 31-34; 3:13 • Being a good steward takes effort – Luke 12:42,43 W. 65th St. church of Christ - 9/11/2005

  13. Parents Are Responsible For Training Their Children • “Bring up” – ἐκτρέφω - ektrephō - to rearup to maturity, that is, (generally) to cherish or train: - bring up, nourish. Strong’s 1625 • “Nurture” – παιδεία – paideia - tutorage, that is, education or training; by implication disciplinary correction: - chastening, chastisement, instruction, nurture. Parents Are Responsible For Training Their Children • “Admonition” – νουθεσία – nouthesia - calling attention to, that is, (by implication) mild rebuke or warning: - admonition. • “of the Lord” – • As the Lord directs . . . • The teaching, training, & admonition is for the primary purpose of equipping them to serve the Lord . . .
