  2. Section one • canister:a strong metal container. It is used to hold gases or chemical substances • helmet: a hat made of a strong material which one wears to protect his head • oxygen • risky • suspicious: arousing suspicion • getaway: If someone makes a getaway, they leave a place quickly, especially after committing a crime or when trying to avoid someone

  3. bundle: a number of things tied together or wrapped in a cloth or bag so that they can be carried or stored stink: smell extremely unpleasant dust cart:垃圾车 cul-de-sac: a short road which is closed off at one end

Section two • villain: someone who deliberately harms other people or breaks the law in order to get what he or she wants • mechanic: someone whose job is to repair and maintain machines and engines, especially car engines • abandon: leave (a place, thing, or person) permanently or for a long time (especially when you should not do so) • fascinating: very interesting and attractive • impertinence: rather impolite and disrespectful talk or behavior • identify: recognize or distinguish sb or sth from others

  5. fuss: anxious or excited behaviour which serves no useful purpose precisely: accurately and exactly sarcastic: Someone who is sarcastic says or does the opposite of what they really mean in order to mock or insult someone lipstick: a coloured substance in the form of a stick which women put on their lips powder compact: a small cosmetics case with a mirror; to be carried in a woman's purse keyhole outrageous: unacceptable or very shocking

Section three • plateau: a large area of high and fairly flat land • mesa: a large hill with a flat top and steep sides; used mainly of hills in the south-western United States • anthropologist: a scientist who studies people, society, and culture • formula: a plan that is invented in order to deal with a particular problem
