Academics and Orientation • Math is taught 60 minutes every day • Science and Social Studies are taught on a 5 week rotation/60 minutes every day • ELA is taught 120 minutes every day • PE is every other day for 60 minutes • Orientation is every other day for 60 minutes • Music (1st marking period) • Art (2nd marking period) • Health (3rd marking period) • Health Research (4th marking period)

  17. Library • Each week we have the opportunity to check out some books during our weekly library time. • Our library time is Friday from 12:34-1:00 • Students are required to read a minimum of 20 minutes daily during the school year.

Agendas Please help us with: • Check through the agenda and homework assignments every night. • If a teacher has the assignment, she will write her INITIALS next to the assignment in the agenda. • We usually do NOT collect homework assignments until the day it is due. • Sign the bottom of the agenda each night. • Use as a tool to communicate with us. • Please review our Middle School student expectations in the front of the agenda with your child.

Friday Folder and Weekly Progress Reports • Friday Folder • The Friday Folder will have the majority of graded work and notices that need to go home. • Please review all the papers as there may be notices or papers that need to be signed and returned. Clean out, sign, and return. • We suggest placing any papers in a box at home. • Weekly Progress Report • The Weekly Progress Report is a report based on effort, behavior, and assignment completion. We provide this report every week on Friday. • Please sign the WPR every week and return.

  20. Binder and Take Home Folder • Binder • All folders are kept in the binder. Along with any important papers that are part of current instructional units. These folders are used to keep class work and notes organized. • Take Home Folder • Take-Home Folder has two sides: BB/bring back to school, KH/keep home • Papers are labeled by students with either BB or KH • KH/Keep Home Side: these papers need to be removed and kept at home. Please clean out the KH side every night. • Make sure that all BB papers are put back into the folder and brought back to school. • Please help your child to: • Put all completed work back in the BB side of the folder each night. • Clean out the Keep Home side of the folder. • We ask that the binder comes to and from school everyday!

  21. Homework and Classwork Expectations • Homework • All homework is based on daily taught skills. • Homework is given every night. It will be approximately 50 minutes. Most nights it will take less time, but occasionally it could take longer. • Each student is also required to read 20 minutes at home. The 20 minutes is not part of the 50 minutes. This time can be with a parent. • All homework should be written in the agenda. • Most homework is started in school. Students also have team support to work on homework and seek additional help from the teachers. • Students should bring any finished homework home for parents to review. • If there is a problem with homework (didn’t do it, struggled through it), please send a note or an email. • Please check through the homework each night with your child. • Classwork • Assignments will be given throughout the day. We will encourage quality work habits, including managing time to complete assignments during the day. • Some assignments may not be completed due to various reasons. We ask that any class work not completed in school be completed at home. We ask that all owed class work be turned in by Thursday to provide an updated report on the WPR.

Grading and Corrections • We use a percentage and weighting system for reporting grades. • ELA, Math, and Social Studies weighting of final grade: • 10% Homework • 30% Tests • 60% Writing, Reading, Class work, quizzes and projects • Science weighting of final grade: • 10% Homework • 20% Labs • 30% Tests • 40% Writing, Reading, Class work, quizzes and projects • Please check the Parent Portal for updated grades. • Scores below a 70% will require a parent’s signature. • Students are allowed to correct assignments for a better grade. Improved grade is an average of the low score and new score. • Please note: science and social studies are taught in 5 week blocks for each 10 week marking period.

  23. Extra Support • We will provide as much extra support as we can throughout the day. Please encourage your child to come to us during the following times: • Lunch 10:15-10:51 • Team Support 10:54-11:15 • Connect Time 2:10-2:30 • Your child can also sign up to stay after school in the library on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays. The late bus is available on those days. • Please note: due to meetings and conferences, teachers may not be able to stay after school.
