Traditional Islam Overview • Islam is the second largest and fastest spreading religion in the world • Muslims believe in one God- known as Allah- who gave his final revelation through the prophet Muhammad in the form of the Qur’an • Contains five pillars of Islam: • Shahada- creed • Daily prayers • Fasting during Ramadan • Almsgiving • Pilgrimage to Mecca

  3. Nation of Islam • The Nation of Islam is similar to traditional Islam in manyways except for these differences: • NOI teaches Allah was incarnated in the form of W.D. Fard / Traditional Islam teaches that it’s blasphemous to believe that Allah would take human form • NOI teaches that the black race is superior to all others / Traditional Islam teaches that all races are equal regardless of skin color • Elijah Muhammad seen by the NOI as a Messenger from God / Traditional Islam teaches that the prophet Muhammad is the very last messenger from God

  4. The Nation of Islam flag. The letters stand for: J- Justice F-Freedom E-Equality I- Unknown, probably Islam The Holy City of Mecca, where all Muslims must make the pilgrimage before they die
