Purpose of Indicator 13 • Definition: Percent of youth with IEPs aged 16 and above with an IEP that includes appropriate measurable postsecondary goals that are annually updated & based upon an age appropriate transition assessment, transition services, including courses of study, that will reasonably enable the student to meet those postsecondary goals, and annual IEP goals related to the student’s transition services needs. • There also must be evidence that the student was invited to the IEP Team meeting where transition services are to be discussed and evidence that, if appropriate, a representative of any participating agency was invited to the IEP Team meeting with the prior consent of the parent or student who has reached the age of majority.(20 USC 1416(a)(3)(B))

  4. SD Indicator 13 Data2012-2013 • 162 files reviewed • 127 files met all 8 criteria (78.40% compliance) • 35 files had at least 1 “no” 96.8% compliance in 2011-2012

  5. 2012-2013 data • All files had measurable post-secondary goals and annual goals. • One file did not have an updated goal • Four files did not have evidence of using a transition assessment in the Individual Education Plan (IEP). • Eleven files did not have transition services that would enable a student to meet their post-secondary goal. • Fourteen files did not have a course of study which extended until student exited. • Eight files did not have documentation the student was invited. • Sixteen files were out of compliance for not inviting an outside agency.

  7. Lowest scoring items on Indicator 13 Typically, these items have scored the lowest during reviews: • Adult agency involvement • Course of study • Transition assessment This year, transition assessment scored higher!

  8. How can we use this data to improve outcomes for students? • Review and become knowledgeable about “enhanced practices” and “predictor activities” • Incorporate enhanced practices and predictor activities when developing and writing IEPs • TR4Y enhanced practices • SD suggested enhanced practices If you do this, your IEPs will “go beyond” the Indicator 13 requirements, and improve the chances of post school success for your students!!
