  2. About me • Grew up in a small town in Massachusetts • Have a Bachelors degree and a Masters degree in elementary education • Have been teaching since 2002 • Have been married for almost 17 years • Have two beautiful children

  3. My Teaching Experience • I have several years experience working with students of all ages. • I have taught both fourth and fifth grade in Mesa and Gilbert Public Schools. • I also teach Teacher Education classes at the University level.

  18. Exploring- 1st Quarter Math -Place value -Time, Money, and Patterns Science Exploring matter Social Studies - What is a community? • Reading - Short and long vowels - What is in a sentence? - Literary Elements of a Story • Writing - How to write a letter? - Grammar and punctuation skills

  19. Grades Reporting periods occur about every 4-5 weeks. About ½ way through each quarter, you will receive a “progress report” to let you know how your child is doing at that point. After each quarter, you will receive a report card. • 4: excelling (90-100%) • 3: meets (working at grade level: 75-89%) • 2: approaches (working below grade level: 60-74%) • 1: falls far below (working well below grade level: 59% or below) You can login to ParentVue at any time to check your child’s progress

  20. Practice • Practice has 3 main areas of focus: reading, spelling, and math. • Fluency:Most weeks your child will have a story to read for homework. • Sight Words: Practice until mastery. • Spelling: focuses on spelling patterns and 5 sight words. • Math: Math page and math facts

  22. Volunteering • In the next few weeks I will send home a volunteer schedule. • If you are unable to make it please let me know. I will work to ensure I have projects for you when you arrive. • I will also email field trip volunteers a month in advance. • All volunteers must complete a clearance form with the office. • I appreciate ALL your help!

  24. K-5 General Music All elementary music students will learn about singing, rhythm, melody, harmony, form, tone color, instruments and be able to participate in different kinds of music. At each grade level, students either explore new music skills or build on previous experience. Some highlights of each grade level are: Miss Amanda Block Master’s of Music Ed. [choir, general music] Bachelor’s of Music Ed. [choir, general music] Eighth year teaching; 5thin Higley; 2ndat Coronado. Teaching K-5 music and 6th -8th grade choir Grade 2: Beat and Rhythm, beginning to play Orff instruments. recorder.

Visual Arts- 2nd GradeMrs. Duffield • Visual Arts is once a week for 35 minutes. • Students are focusing on the Elements and Principles of Design, they will be using various media to complete their projects. • Schedule and Pictures of Projects are available on my teacher webpage, as are downloads, wish lists, calendars, and blog. • Please e-mail me at sara.duffield@husd.org if you have any questions or concerns.
