  2. Project Description • Purpose • Replace the antiquated procedures in place for paper-based drawing release with new procedures that utilize the technology of Computer Aided Design (CAD).

  3. Problem • Current work-flow requires the printing of hundreds of 24”x36” prints every month. • Why is this a problem? • Time • Costs • Waste • Errors

  4. Problem: Time • The required to print, sign and fold prints averages to about 4 minutes per vessel drawing. • To issue a drawing the designer must: • Publish a DWF File of Drawing • Print Drawing • Retrieve Drawing • Sign Drawing • Fold Drawing • Print Calculations • Retrieve Calculations • Sign Calculations • Group Drawing and Calculations • Put in mail-box • Send E-mail Notifications

  5. Problem: Costs, Waste and Errors • Paper ($109.50) • Ink ($230.00) • Maintenance • The more it is used, the more it breaks. • Errors • It is difficult to keep drawing users up-to-date when drawing revisions are made. • Manufacturing a product off of old / incorrect drawings.

  6. Methodology • Most of the suggested procedure is based on knowledge of the software, industry, equipment and the needs of the drawings consumers. • Research was used as a means to support existing ideas and to help develop new ones. • Electronic Drawing Release • Built-in Functionality • DWF File Format

  7. New Procedure • The suggested procedure reduces the number of steps by 50% and the amount of engineering department drawing release time by 75%. • Publish a DWF File of Drawing • Stamp Drawing with Signature • Publish Calculations • Stamp Calculations with Signature • Send E-mail Notifications

  8. Side-by-side comparison • Publish a DWF File of Drawing • Stamp Drawing with Signature • Publish Calculations • Stamp Calculations with Signature • Send E-mail Notifications • Publish a DWF File of Drawing • Print Drawing • Retrieve Drawing • Sign Drawing • Fold Drawing • Print Calculations • Retrieve Calculations • Sign Calculations • Group Drawing and Calculations • Put in mail-box • Send E-mail Notifications Current Process New Process

  9. Conclusion • The best solution for drawing release is to publish DWF files to a commonly accessible network folder. • Network permission • Password protection for individual files • Electronically sign with actual signature • E-mail notification of drawing issued • Consumer can print as need
