Amazing Market • Why does the stock market exist? • Government needed to borrow money to pay for the revolutionary War • Alexander Hamilton report on Public Credit decided to sell bonds and funds • These bonds marked the beginning of Americas financial markets • Once the bonds were issued private investors began trading them

Market Signals • It generated prices • Reflected investors' best estimates of each company's future potential • the telegraph, ticker tape, telephone, and now the Internet, • allows us to buy and sell from everywhere. • Stock market exists • to provide investors with the liquidity • they require to invest in the stocks • that corporations want to sell to raise funds for their start-up and expansion.

Groups need to keep track of • SMG Journal: Student journal to record • decision-making process, • summarize important information, • reflect on decision made through the course of the SMG program. • SMG Portfolio: • Record of investments and their current value • history of investments with prices of sales • cash on hand • money borrowed.

  12. Homework • Each Team member needs to log on and read and understand the Stock Market Game website. It has Resources and other tabs you can look at to understand how the game works. • Do not buy or sell and stock now!!!! • Prepare and assign one of your members to keep a SMG Journal and another member to keep the SMG Portfolio. • Everyone will contribute to each document not only the person that is assigned. • Exchange email addresses with your member so you can communicate afterschool about the project.
