  2. Safety First: Preparing Trash for Recycling • Wear heavy, latex utility gloves. • Do not reach into the trash to pull out an object. • Empty contents onto a newspaper. • Search contents with your eyes. • Never handle trash with bare hands.

  3. Cleaning Wall-Hanging Ash Urns • Check for hot ashes. • Remove cigarette butts and other trash. • Remove the metal liner and empty it into a trash container. • Wash the liner with soapy water. • Wipe the liner dry. • Return the liner to the ash urn.

  4. Cleaning Sand-Filled Ash Urns • Remove debris with a strainer tool. • Empty wet sand into trash bags. • Pour fresh sand into the urn. • Smooth sand. • Stamp the sand with the property’s logo (If the property has a stamping tool).

  5. Cleaning HVAC Grates and Vents • Dust vents and grates. • Vacuum easy-to-reach vents and grates with a portable vacuum cleaner • Vacuum hard-to-reach vents and grates with a step ladder.

  6. Report These Items to Your Supervisor: • Stains and dirt that could not be removed by cleaning. • Tears or punctures in the wall covering • Areas where the wallpaper paste is not holding. • Other damage.

  7. Cleaning Blinds • Use a clean cloth, small broom, or brush to wipe the dust from the blinds. • Use a damp cloth followed by a dry cloth to clean stubborn dirt from each slat. • Wipe the rods, poles, and cords of the blinds. • Wipe the area behind the blinds. • Test blinds to make sure they work correctly.

  8. Cleaning Stairwells, Fire Corridors, Ledges, and Balconies • Pick up any debris. • Remove chewing gum or sticky residue with a putty knife. • Remove floor mats and sweep thoroughly. • Take badly soiled mats to the dock or mop sink area. • Spray mats with grease-cutting detergent and scrub.

Cleaning Elevators • Take the elevator out of service. • Vacuum carpeted areas. • Clean hard floors be sweeping, mopping, or waxing. • Dust all surfaces with a dust cloth or a damp cloth followed by a clean, dry cloth. • Dust the ceiling and lights. • Clean the door tracks with a brush or small broom followed by a vacuum cleaner. • Clean the inside of elevator doors with a dry cloth. • Put the elevator back in service. • Close the door and wipe the outside of the door with a dry cloth.
