  2. What is Service Learning? Service-learning is a teaching method that combines service to the community with classroom curriculum. It is more than merely community service. It is a hands-on approach to mastering subject material while fostering civic responsibility. http://www.statefarm.com/about/part_spos/community/ed_excel/servlrng.asp
  3. Benefits of Service Learning Increased access to the range of supports and opportunities they need to grow up healthy, caring, and responsible. Increased sense of self-efficacy, as young people learn that they can impact real social challenges, problems, and needs. Higher academic achievement and interest in furthering their education. Enhanced problem-solving skills, ability to work in teams, and planning abilities. Enhanced civic engagement attitudes, skills and behaviors. http://www.servicelearning.org/instant_info/fact_sheets/cb_facts/benefits_cbosl/
  4. What does it mean to me? Throughout the Freshman Year Experience Program, I have participated in many Service Learning activities. These activities I believe have made me become a well rounded individual. Service Learning has let me experience helping people who really need it. I believe that everyone should participate in Service Learning activities.
  5. What did I do? Normal Life of Georgia Fall Ball Operation Christmas Child Moody Haunted House 2nd Harvest Habitat for Humanity Relay for Life Carwash Bowling for Big Brother's and Big Sister's
  6. What did I do cont’d… For the Normal Life Fall Ball, I helped setup and tear down for the dance. For the Moody Haunted House, I helped out as a character. I helped in the Haunted House by running around and scaring people. For the Relay for Life Car Wash, I brought supplies to dry off the vehicles after we washed them. I also assisted in washing the cars.
  7. Was it fun? Beneficial? Yes, I believe that all of the Service Learning events that I participated in were very fun. Whether I was washing cars, scaring people, or just bowling for Big Brother’s and Big Sister’s I always kept a positive attitude and had fun. Yes, the Service Learning activities were very beneficial. At the end of the day I could feel proud about myself because I spent my time helping others. I also got to see how I can be useful in my community.
