  2. Service-Learning • Service Learning is the method through which citizenship, academic, subjects, skills, and values are taught. (Keys to Success-VSU Edition, p. 391).

Benefits of Service-Learning • Increases retention • Provides quality education • Enhances personalized education for students. • Teaches positive values, leadership, citizenship and personal responsibility • Encourages faculty to be more innovative and creative in their teaching • Helps with community education • Teaches job skills and prepares students for careers after college • Increases campus-community collaboration and partnerships • (Keys to Success- VSU Edition, p. 392)

  4. Shamrock • Shamrock is Kappa Delta’s Philanthropy. • The event is for the organization Prevent Child Abuse. • All money raised goes straight to the Prevent Child Abuse fund.

  5. Shamrock’s Flag Football Tournament • Each year Kappa Delta hosts a Flag football tournament to raise funds for Prevent Child Abuse. • 15-20 teams compete on average annually. • Teams are required to pay an entry fee of $125 dollars. Donations are also accepted for greater amounts

  6. Shamrock Flag Football Tournament Ctd. • The tournament lasts two days total. • It begins at 8 am, and goes until 10 p.m. the first day. • The second day it begins again at 8 a.m. and ends around 5 or 6 p.m.

Relay for Life • Relay for Life is an event that goes on from 7pm- 7am. • All of the funds and proceeds raised go towards the American Cancer Society. • The American Cancer Society Relay For Life is a life-changing event that gives everyone in communities across the globe a chance to celebrate the lives of people who have battled cancer, remember loved ones lost, and fight back against the disease

Relay for Life Ctd. • At Relay, teams of people camp out at a local high school, park, or fairground and take turns walking or running around a track or path. • Relay For Life is more than just a fundraiser. It’s a life-changing experience. At Relay, every person in the community has a chance to celebrate, remember, and fight back. And every person who participates joins others around the globe as part of this worldwide movement to end cancer.

Benefits Gained • Some different benefits that I gained while participating in service learning include: responsibility, obligations, finding out more information, helping out people, meeting new people, and influencing people’s lives positively. • Service learning is something that everybody should partake in. It benefits so much and really helps people out. • Throughout all of my service learning I benefited a lot, and learned things that I never would have known.
