  5. Vitamin A Deficiency • Healthy eyesight and mucous membranes • Deficiency: • Drying of membranes • Increase in infections • Also poor night vision • Eventual blindness • Increase intake – raw carrot

  6. Vitamin B Deficiency • Normally release energy and nerve function • Deficiency: • Mouth sores • Degeneration of nerve cells • Anaemia – needed for red blood cells • Increase intake – handful of nuts

  7. Vitamin C Deficiency • Normally for healthy immune system and skin • Deficiency: • Soft and bleeding gums • Bruising and nosebleeds • Needed to form healthy blood vessels • Scurvy • Increase intake – glass of fruit juice

  8. Vitamin D Deficiency • Normally for healthy teeth and bones • Deficiency: • Weak teeth • Softened bones • Deformed bones - Rickets • Increase intake – cereal (fortified) with milk
