Jim Crow Laws. Tony Paterniti. What were they. Jim Crow Laws are all kinds of laws against African Americans. Mostly Separation Laws like white and black schools, trains, buses, ect. Mostly in them South. The Civil War. The Civil War brought an end to slavery.

  2. What were they • Jim Crow Laws are all kinds of laws against African Americans. • Mostly Separation Laws like white and black schools, trains, buses, ect. • Mostly in them South.

  3. The Civil War • The Civil War brought an end to slavery. • Also gave African Americans Equal Rights. • But still did not put an end to Jim Crow Laws.

  4. Why Seperation Laws • Were put in place to make the African Americans know he was not equal to a white man. • They were “separate but equal”.

  5. Homer Plessy • Homer Plessy was a lighter colored African American. • He got onboard a white mans train cart in Louisiana and refused to leave when asked to do so. • He then was arrested and took to court. • Ended up going to the Supreme.

  6. Plessy V. Ferguson • At supreme court. • Law in Louisiana that did not give African American equal rights(Plessy). • Supreme court denied the African American there Civil Rights.

  7. The Spread • For nearly 50 years after the Plessy V. Ferguson case Jim Crow Laws popped up all over America. • African Americans were separate but equal.

  8. Why Jim Crow • Jim Crow laws got there name a pretty interesting way. • From a minstrel show character named Jim Crow who was darker colored. • Jim Crow was more nicer than saying “N-word laws.

  9. The End of the laws • 1914. • Case Brown V. Board of Education. • Separation of Schools was unconstitutional. • of the 14th Amendment equal protection laws. • Put an end to Jim Crow Laws.
