Energy & Low Carbon Technologies:Industry Strengths • Availability of Natural Resources • Scotland’s offshore storage capacity for carbon emissions is greater than the Netherlands, Denmark and Germany combined; • Scotland is leading the world in large offshore wind farms, and has an estimated 25% of the potential European wind resource; and • Scotland has 25% of Europe’s potential tidal power and 10% of its wave potential. • Collaborative pooling in energy and climate change RDD&D through • Energy Technology Partnership (ETP) • Scottish Centre for Carbon Storage • Scottish Alliance for Geo-science Environment, Society (SAGES) • Trans-national engagement of the Scottish European Green Energy Centre (SEGEC) and Scottish Development International (SDI)

Energy & Low Carbon Technologies:Industry Opportunities • Strong policy leadership shown by the Scottish Government • New funding opportunities to co-finance the development of the low carbon economy at the EU level, through the New Entrants Reserve package, Low Carbon Communication package, and via the European Investment Bank • Opportunities for trans-national collaboration in infrastructure development in the EU through trans-European networks, the development of a North Sea electricity grid or a North Sea carbon transport and storage network
