  2. General Green Tea Health Claims • Has been found to help reduce heart disease, aging, cancer, inflammation, diabetes, liver disease, lowers cholesterol (but raises good HDL cholesterol), helps with weight loss • Antioxidants from green tea are much stronger than vitamins C and E

  3. What is In Green Tea Extract? • Herbal product made from green tea leaves (Camellia Sinensis) and a concentration of the beneficial antioxidants in the leaves • Taking Green Tea Extract to gain full benefit- easier than consuming many cups of green day per day • Contains antioxidants called polyphenols

  4. Green Tea Extract available in Liquid or Pill Form

  5. How Do You Get Green Tea? • Green tea leaves (bags) can be bought from many food stores such as the supermarket, CVS, or health food stores. • It can be purchased in bottled drink form • Can be taken as green tea extract

  6. How To Take It • Green Tea Extract: The average person should take either 1-2 capsules per day or about 50-100 drops of the liquid extract • Roughly the equivalent of drinking 5 cups of green tea (5 cups is the amount shown to produce benefits)

  7. Other Considerations • Can you be deficient in the polyphenol antioxidents? No, not an essential element for the body’s functioning, but appears to be beneficial • Can you take too much? Recommended not to intake over 10 cups per day (possible liver or kidney damage beyond that). • FDA: Does not believe that green tea reduces heart or cancer risks and will not allow sellers to make any such claims on the products themselves. FDA rates green tea and the extract as safe • Green Tea is not high in caffeine, but decaffeinated extracts are available
