What’s the Problem? • We are waking up to the legacy of the industrial age: • It’s a legacy of supply and demand • Production – what materials we use and what stuff we make • Consumption – not just what we choose to consume but how we choose to consume it • Plastics are an obvious symptom and are easy to relate to, for example “single-use plastics” • In traditional buildingsplastics can directly and indirectly damage: • Building fabric • Indoor air quality and health • The environment • Aesthetics

  8. Plastic types (2016 – EU member states; 50MT) We don’t talk about “metals” in construction, we refer to steel, aluminium, zinc, copper, etc as discreet materials so why don’t we do this with plastics?
