  2. Eric Carle Everyone loves Eric Carle's picture books.  He is both author and illustrator.  That means he writes the words and draws the pictures for his books.

  3. Eric Carle He creates beautiful picture books for very young children. His best known work is The Very Hungry Caterpillar.  Have you read this book?

  4. Eric Carle He was born in Syracuse, New York and moved with his parents to Germany when he was six years old. 

  5. Akademie der bildenden Kunste Eric Carle went to elementary school and high school in Germany. He graduated from an important art school there, Akademie der bildenden Kunste. 

  6. Back to the United States Eric Carle returned to America in 1952 and found a job as a graphic designer for The New York Times, a New York City newspaper. 

  7. Collaboration Soon after moving to New York City, Eric Carle collaborated with Bill Martin, Jr. to publish his first book, Brown Bear, Brown Bear ,What Do You See?   Here collaboration means Bill Martin, Jr. wrote the words, and Eric Carle drew the pictures.

  8. First Book Soon Eric Carle began writing and illustrating his own stories. His first book was 1, 2, 3 To The Zoo. 

  9. Collage Eric Carle's art is created using the collage technique.  He hand paints papers then cuts and layers them to form bright images.
