  3. Standards and Elements SSUSH17 The student will analyze the causes and consequences of the Great Depression. Elements: a. Describe the causes including over production, under consumption, and stock market speculation that led to the stock market crash of 1929 and Great Depression.b. Explain the impact of the drought in the creation of the Dust Bowl.c. Explain the social and political impact of widespread unemployment that resulted in developments such as Hoovervilles.

  4. Enduring Understanding The students will understand that in October 1929, panic selling caused the U.S. stock market to crash which led to the Great Depression and by the 1930’s, wage cuts and growing unemployment had brought widespread suffering across the U.S.

  5. Essential Questions 1. What events led to the Stock Market Crash? (Pg. 740) 2. Why did the Great Crash produce a ripple effect throughout the nations economy? 3. What was the main cause of the Great Depression? 4. How did poverty spread during the Great Depression? 5. What were Hoovervilles? 6. What were Dust Bowls and their results 7. What social problems were caused by poverty in the 1930’s?
