  4. Using the Gift • Want The Gift • “I’ll just figure it out.” • “Where are the instructions?” • “Can someone show me how to use this?” • “I already have something like this.” • “I’m not using this. It’s too complicated.” • “I’m returning this gift.” • Don’t Want The Gift

  5. Ideas for Using Your Gift

  6. The Night Before Christmas T’was the night before Christmas and all through the college No students were there gaining any knowledge The labs were all closed and ready for the break The professors were home and barely awake But the lab coordinator was in bed, worrying and thinking “How can I help the faculty who feel they are sinking?” Simulation was coming, but not until late January What classes would use it? Would the scheduling be arbitrary?

  7. Do the faculty know what the manikins can do? Do they know how real simulation can be for you? Do they know manikins allow students to try to be a nurse Without risk to the patient and without an instructor with whom to converse? We can present them with any type of situation: High risk, low volume, and even practice communication. Simulation can build knowledge, confidence, and skill And presents more teaching options than live clinicals will

  8. At the instructor’s command manikins talk, cry, or breathe They sweat, they bleed, they vomit and pee Their eyes blink and react to light And their bodies respond to drugs just like a patient might Their pulses and heart and breath sounds are great. Students can resuscitate and even defibrillate The manikin software is easy to use The monitors are bright and have many different views

  9. The laptop computer lets you work on the run Everything’s adjustable just by the touch of your thumb With 15 built-in scenarios there is less work to do You can video, playback, and even review The lab coordinator relaxed as these thoughts went through her head, For now she could rest easy as she headed to bed As she drifted off to sleep she felt all was right And she thought to herself - Merry Christmas to all and to all a good night!
