Best Practices • The monthly ranking of the district is being done regularly since August 2012 to assess the performance of the district. • The honorarium of block resource persons/district resource person has been increased from Rs.6000/- to Rs. 7500 . • Fund transfer is made through NEFT to school accounts maintained in CBS branch of banks. • All District MDM in-charges were sent to National Productivity Council, Jaipur in two batchs for Administrative and Management Training Programme on capacity building. • All cooks are giving one day training on preparation of hygienic food and cleaning of kitchen shed – For this one hour video film has been developed. • 60 Cooks were trained by IHM hajipur through ten day training programme. Selected 120 cooks from 4 district also received training conducted by Akshaypatra foundation. • Full fledged online monitoring mechanism by web based monthly MIS and Dopahar (IVRS).

  4. ISSUES • 10864 Cook cum helpers are not yet engaged. • Non coverage of 34% and 37% children in Primary and Upper primary. • 9898 Kitchen cum store are yet to be constructed out of 69577 kitchen cum store. • Poor performance of School health program : Health checkup of 17% children, IFA distribution 16% of the children and Distribution of Deworming to only 23% of the enrolled children). • Mismatch in AWP&B and MIS data • ASER 2013 : 58.7 % schools have toilet facility and only47.6 Schools have usable girls toilet.

  5. Contd. • 21.38% and 32.47% children are moderately malnourished in Jehanabad and Vaishali respectively. (JRM) • The deficiency symptoms of protein, vitamin A, B complex and iron deficiency anemia were observed amongst surveyed children (JRM). However Health checkup of 17% children has been carried out as per AWP&B. • High prevalence of worm infestation (JRM). However only 23% children received deworming.

  6. Contd. • Cleanliness and maintence of Kitchen cum store is required (JRM) • Inadequate number of cook-cum-helpers engaged in some of the schools. (JRM & MI Report) • 50% of water samples in Jehanabad & 87.5% of the samples were contaminated in Vaishali district.(JRM) • The use of vegetables was grossly inadequate (JRM)

  38. MI ISSSUES : A.N. Sinha Institute of Social Studies District Covered Jehanabad • Schools were not getting cooking cost in advance regularly 6 (15%) sampled schools. The quality of food-grains was found average in 15 (37.5%) sampled schools. • Cooks-cum-helpers were not found engaged as per state Government norms in 27 (70%) sampled schools . • Delayed payment of remuneration of cook-cum-helpers engaged in 15% sampled schools . • Separate toilets for boys and girls are not available12 (30%) schools . • Its weekly menu was displayed in 39 (97.5%) sampled schools at a prominent place noticeable to community, except one school (Kanya Urdu VidhalayaJehanabad) that is running at H.M. residence.
