  3. Background It is being increasingly recognised by the Corporates that it is not the sole responsibility of the governments alone to create larger platforms for inclusive growth but they have a key role to deliver and share a part of their prosperity with the under privileged, the deprived and the lowest rung of the pyramid. To demonstrate their social responsibilities India Corporates have always been in the forefront to discharge their CSR –with a human touch. While CSR has now been an item of board discussions, the exemplary work and contribution of several large as well as small enterprises is an occasion of recognition and motivation for the others. The initiative of the government to integrate CSR as a part of business plans is an epoch making step reflecting the urgency for an inclusive society with greater involvement of business with society. ASSOCHAM, as a proactive apex industry chamber, has always long realized that good work done by corporates as a responsible citizen must be recognised and showcased so that the tempo gets penetrated in the DNA of as many corporates as possible. As a strong demonstration of this great philosophy, ASSOCHAM, constituted “CSR Excellence Awards” in 2008. In continuation of our responsible initiative, every year ASSOCHAM celebrates CSR Summit cum Excellence Awards 2013-14 to recognize and reward them for their best CSR practices.
