  2. Persuade • To prevail upon a person to do something, to convince

  3. Testimonials A statement by a person in support of a particular truth, fact, or claim; recommendation

  4. Bandwagon Effect Appeals to “everyone is doing it”mentality. For example: An advertisement for shoes that tells you “everyone” is wearing them.

  5. Sentimental Appeal/ Loaded Language- • A method of persuasion that appeals to a person’s emotions in order to convince them to do or believe something.

  6. Exaggeration • Represents (something) as being larger, greater, better, or worse than it really is

  7. Contradiction Direct opposition between things compared

  8. Misleading Statements • An intentionally untrue statement made to mislead.

  9. Scare Tactics Tries to convince you to do something by scaring you

  10. False Authority Use of authority instead of evidence. Example: When a celebrity endorses a product

  11. Red Herring • Used to distract the audience by presenting a side issue not related to the topic

  12. Faulty Reasoning • Defective reasoning, logical fallacies
