  1. Component 3 : Study of Islam Exam Thursday the 24th of May (PM)

  2. Contents:

  3. 3:18 - Allah witnesses that there is no deity except Him, and [so do] the angels and those of knowledge - [that He is] maintaining [creation] in justice. There is no deity except Him, the Exalted in Might, the Wise. 46:33 - Do they not see that Allah, who created the heavens and earth and did not fail in their creation, is able to give life to the dead? Yes. Indeed, He is over all things competent. 2:115 - And to Allah belongs the east and the west. So wherever you [might] turn, there is the face of Allah . Indeed, Allah is all-Encompassing and Knowing. 42:19 - Allah is subtle with His servants; He gives provisions to whom He wills. And He is the Powerful, the Exalted in Might. Some extra useful terms: Fitrah – the natural instinct all humans have from birth, to knoaw and worship Allah. Taqwa – having an awareness of God in every aspect of life. Muslims try to live in state of taqwa.

  4. Sunni Vs Shia on Angels: Shia Muslims believe that it was through an angel that God made it clear to Muhammad that following his death Ali should be the next leader of the Muslim community. They also say Jibril visited Fatima (Muhammad's daughter) and shared wisdom that confirmed the importance of the succession of imams.

  5. Insha’ Allah – ‘If Allah allows it’. This is often used by Muslims to show they are in submission to the will of Allah. They may say ‘I will make it to work on time Insha’Allah’. It shows they know somethings are out of their hands and are left to be predestined by Allah.

  6. What is involved in the Rak’a? Do I have to actually follow the 5 pillars? Ideally yes but it all comes down to your intention (niyyah). Since Allah knows everything even your deepest thoughts then he will know whether you intended to do it or not. Do you convert to Islam by doing the 5 pillars? Since we are all born with fitrah we are all born Muslim. Therefore when you ‘convert’ to Islam you are not converting you are reverting to your original natural religion. All that you have to do is recite the Shahada and mean it. What happens if you miss a prayer? You would be expected to catch it up when you can and again the fact you missed it is not judged only the intention you had of either missing it for a valid reason or missing it because you couldn’t be bothered is judged. Is fasting more difficult in the UK? It depends on the time of the year. Some Muslims have asked for a set time to fast worldwide. This is because in the Middle East you are expected to fast for a maximum of 15 hours however in the UK during summer it could be as long as 19 hours.
