2. Renaissance This is a period of the rebirth of science, literature, arts after the Dark Ages. Started in the early 1400’s. Though religious themes are predominant in art there are also a lot of portraits.There is a strong realism in the human figure and in the variety of portraits. They developed: the landscape painting, new studies of light, the creation of perspective, and daily life scenes. The most famous painters are: Masaccio, Titian, Raphael, Donatello, Michael Angelo, and Leonardo Da Vinci.

3. Baroque art • The Baroque is a period of artistic style that used exaggerated motion and clear, easily interpreted detail to produce drama, tension, exuberance, and grandeur in sculpture, painting, architecture, literature, dance, and music. The style began around 1600 in Rome, Italy and spread to most of Europe. There is exaggerated lighting, intense emotions, and even a kind of artistic sensationalism.

4. ROCOCO • Thisartisticmovementstarted in France between1730 and 1760. • Defined as individualist and antiformal art . Itischaracterizedluminous,soft and light colors. Thereis a mixture of nature and mythology, beautyespecially in lovethemes. There are no religiousinfluences. Itisaboutdailylife and human relations.

5. Impressionistpainting Painters who changed the history of art. Stepped aside from all convensionalism and created a new style .They painted based on light showing it was made of different colors. When these paintings were seen from near they seemed blurry but from a distance they were defined.Pointillism and symbolism starts. From then on new art movements emerged showing a greater freedom of expression. Some of them showed desintegration of form having free use of color .

6. CUBISM CUBISM:Itwas the first time art rejected realistic representation.Here is where abstract art starts. Cubism shows figures from different angles at the same time;it is seen in movement. Uses juxtapossition of objects transformed in geometric figures.It shows no perspective and things are shown through lines and forms. The founders of these movement were Pablo Picasso and George Braque.

7. EXPRESSIONISM EXPRESSIONISM:Expresses feelings and emotions of the author instead of representing objective reality; deformation of reality, careless about the theme.Sometimes themes are exagerated and distorted. It uses the expression of vivid colors.

8. ABSTRACT EXPRESSIONISM This movement started in the 1930’s in the U.S.A. with a group of painters influenced by the European Expresionism.Their work is extremely spontaneous especially with the dripping technique started by Jackson Pollock. They represented basic emotions through abstract paintings and vivid colors.

9. DADA Suggested the destruction of art. It was a critic to war and to all social value showing that life meant nothing so as art.Art was shown in an absurd and irrational way.The name comes from the first words said by a baby which meant nothing.They used ordinary objects to make their art. • Pablo Picasso wasone of thecreators of Dada

10. SURREALISM SUREALISM:Comes from Dada art.It shows protest against society especially war. It mostly shows dreams in an abstract way. Most of the time there is a strong realism in the figures. The most famous artist of this movement was Salvador Dali
