  1. WELCOME TO MY PROJECT PREPARED BY MOHD,NASEERUDDIN S.A BIO-SCIENCE G.B.H.S MEDAK

  2. HEART PRESENTED BY MOHD.NASEERUDDIN G.B.H.S, MEDAK (Dist:Medak)

  3. OBJECTIVES • At the end of this presentation students will be able to know about • Structure • Parts and • Functions of heart.

  4. EXTERNAL FEATURES • The heart is a hallow organ, situated slightly towards left side in the middle of the chest. • It is made up of cardiac muscles. • The heart is protected on all sides by rib cage and by vertebral column back side. • Generally it is the size of the fist of the person.

  5. WORKING OF HEART 1. Both the auricles contract at the same time and pump blood in to the ventricles. (Auricular systole). 2. Both the ventricles contract the same time and pump blood in to blood vessels. (Ventricular systole) The auricles begin to relax this position. 3. Both the auricles and ventricles relax (ventricular diastole)

  6. Blood vessels • There are three types of blood vessels form a complex network of tubes through out the body. • Arteries,Veins,Capillaries.

  7. Mechanism of blood vessels • Pulmonary Veins bring oxygenated blood. • Pulmonary arteries carries deoxygenated blood • Venacava are large veins and aorta is a large artery

  8. VALVES 1. Valves of the heart allow the blood to flow in one direction only. 2. Tricuspid valve allows blood to flow from right auricle to right ventricle. 3. Bicuspid valve allows blood to flow from left auricle to left ventricle. 4. Pulmonary valve allows blood to flow from right ventricle to pulmonary aorta. 5. Aortic valves allows blood to flow from left ventricle to aorta.

  9. Heart attack • The blocking of caronary artery results in heart attack

  10. BLOOD CIRCULATION • Blood pumped by the heart either to lungs or to rest of the body flows through the blood vessels and returns once again to the heart. • The path in wich the blood flows is called circuit.

  11. BLOOD CIRCUITS There are two circuits for the flow of blood. 1. One is between heart and the lungs called pulmonary circuit. 2. The second is between heart and organs of the body called systemic circuit. 3. A heart that pumps blood in to two circuits is called a Double circuit heart.

  12. HEART BEAT • The word heart-beat represents one contraction and one relaxation of the heart.

  13. BLOOD PRESSURE • The pressure with which the blood vessels is called Blood Pressure.(B.P) • It is meassured by an instrument is called SPYGMOMANOMETER and is written as 120/80 • This is normal blood pressure. • The 120 represents SYSTOLIC PRESSURE. • 80 represents DIASTOLIC PRESSURE.

  14. Heart • The word heart-beat represents one contraction and one relaxation of the heart.

  15. In this lesson we have learnt about • structure of heart • parts of heart • functions of heart

  16. EXTRA INFORMATION The first heart transplant was performed in 1967 by South Africa surgeon Christian Barnard.

  17. Assignment test Fill up the blanks with suitable answers. 1. The normal blood pressure in man is---------- 2. In man --------- fluid present in pericardium protects the heart from injury. 3. Heart beat consist of one--------and-------- 4. Blood pressure is massured by--------. 5. The muscles present in the heart is called---------. • Match the following • A • Auricles • 2.
