  4. Telemedicine and e-health Information Service (TEIS) • Formerly National Database of Telemedicine • Was funded by NHS Information Authority (until March 2004) • Once again, need to find new funding

Spin-offs from TEIS • Resource centre for NeLH • e-health • Collaborate with: • UK e-health Association • Royal Society of Medicine Telemedicine Forum • Institute of Healthcare Management/ASSIST • Confederation of E-health Websites (CEW, pronounced "queue") • Sponsored DTI-funded mission to South Korea, March 2001

Adverse clinical outcomes • Can useful predictive information be gleaned from already existing data? • Project funded by local NHS R&D fund + University funds • Developed a new technique for comparing surgical performance; extending it to General Medicine • Paper accepted by BritJSurgery; one in pipeline; front page of The Observer

  7. Cancer care data • Since 1998, trusts need to report data on cancer patients • National Service Frameworks • 150 items of data per patient • 500,000 data items pa in Portsmouth alone • Usability issues • Penny Ross working on it • Funding from charity
