  1. Live@edu! METLA Cinco De Mayo, 2011 (I stole this slide from Microsoft)

  2. DISCLAIMER • I DON’T WORK FOR MICROSOFT! • Both Google and Microsoft have great offerings both having pros/cons. Choose what fits best in your environment. • It takes TWO Google guys to equal ONE Microsoft guy! • Not enough time to dive too deep into, but will have more information available online

  3. Name Changing

  4. Lync? • Basically Video Conference • IM • Audio/Video conference • Desktop sharing (try that with Google Apps!)

  5. Our Obstacles • Convincing administrators that this will be a controlled email environment • archive all student to teacher email for 1 year using on-premise equipment • Restrict email between student and teacher only – no outside mail unless required for class • Account Creation • Contracted with company to help get us started. Decided not to do AD integration at onset. • Hopefully implementing next school year

  6. Reasons we chose MSFT • Teachers used to feel of Exchange • Students are flexible with just about everything. • SkyDrive ease of use • Integration with Office • Control of email flow

  7. Email Flow • OUR SETUP: • Student to student blocked • Between teacher and students allowed • All external blocked • Group for students if external email needed • You are in control!

  8. Account Creation • Web GUI – manual entry (few entries) • Web GUI – csv import (easy – no AD) • PowerShell – csv import (automation) • OLSync using Identity Lifecycle Manager ($500?) (AD already in place) • SSO – used after account provision

  9. Demo • Initial page to setup domain • Co-Branding • Custom Addresses • Outlook Control Panel • Users/Groups Page • Mail Controls – student 2 student and Closed Campus • Check email • Demo email permit and denies?

  10. POWERSHELL ROCKS! • Script account creation • Create dynamic distributiongroups • Multiple account edits • Example CSV File • Powershell Quick demo • Link to directions
