Hypatia Project: Partner Contributions • Horton and Central Kings high schools are involved in a project designed to increase the participation of women in science and technology. • Partners in this project (schools,community college, industry, government and community members) are working together to keep girls involved in science, math, and technology throughout High School and into further education and employment.   4. HYPATIA: Research Activities • Draw a Scientist, asked students to illustrate their impression of what a scientist does. • A Two Page Survey asked students to respond to six questions. These questions focus on their ideas of what people do in science, technology and trades and what they do to become qualified for these jobs • Focus Group: This hour long session was a small group discussion based on the same six survey questions. HYPATIA: Survey Questions • When people say “I work in science”, what do you think they are doing while they are at work? • What about people who say “I work in technology”, what kinds of things are they doing? • What about people who say “I have a trade”, what kinds of things are they doing? • What qualifications do people need to get these jobs and where do they go to to get these qualifications.? • Do you think being male or female makes a difference in doing these jobs? • Do you see yourself ever doing a job in science, technology or trades?   8. HYPATIA: Research Results-3 • This document highlights anecdotal comments which are not statistically significant but rather expressions with summary insight. Terry Knock for Hypatia @CKRH

HYPATIA: Future Action Plans • The purpose of Hypatia is to provide students and parents with current information about the options in terms of education and career choices. • We will be analyzing at the data and making plans to provide information where it appears to be needed.
