  1. Bellwork 1) C 2) A 3) B

  2. A few things to discuss… • Increasing vs. Decreasing • Linear vs. Exponential • Asymptotes • Think about how quickly something would increase/decrease

  3. Questions on Assignment? • You should have the table all the way filled out and all the graphs completed!

  4. Matching Activity -Cut out equations and graphs -Every word problem will have a graph and equation -Wait to glue them down until we’ve had the chance to discuss

  5. Let’s check! • Starting with 120 infected people, the number of zombie’s doubles every hour.

  6. A cup of coffee is left sitting on the kitchen table where the temperature of the surrounding air is 70 degrees Fahrenheit. We measure its temperature to be 195 degrees Fahrenheit. After one minute, we measure its temperature again, getting a second temperature of 94 degrees Fahrenheit.

  7. An investment of $120 increases by 10% each year.

  8. The amount of gas in your car’s 16-gallon gas tank decreases by about 1 gallon every 25 miles.

  9. You drink a beverage with 195 mg of caffeine. Each, hour, the caffeine in your system decreases by about 12%.

  10. You lend $120 dollars to a friend and charge $1 interest each day until they pay you back.

  11. >Assuming you don’t have any more caffeine, how much caffeine will be in your system after 15 hours? You drink a beverage with 195 mg of caffeine. Each hour, the caffeine in your system decreases by about 12%. This means x=15… Let’s plug it in and see if we can figure it out more precisely… Milligrams of Caffeine (y) It looks like y is close to 30… After 15 hours, you will still have 28.66 mg of caffeine in your system Number of Hours (x)

  12. >You get caffeine headaches when you are down to having only 10mg of caffeine in your system. How long until you get a caffeine headache? You drink a beverage with 195 mg of caffeine. Each hour, the caffeine in your system decreases by about 12%. This means y=10… Milligrams of Caffeine (y) Could we plug in 10 for y and solve for x to get a more precise answer? It looks like x is close to 25 We would get 10=195(0.88)xand we don’t know how to solve this yet. You will get a caffeine headache after about 25 hours Number of Hours (x)

  13. Now you try!
