Many Initiatives working towards the same goal: Student Achievement • A complete revision of the Student Code of Conduct (the Matrix) in Lafayette Parish-Spring 2009 • District Wide Implementation of School Wide Positive Behavior Support (PBS)-Fall 2008 • District Wide Implementation of Response to Intervention (RtI)-Fall 2008

  3. Preliminary Data:Semester 1 (pre-Matrix) vs. Semester 2 (post-Matrix) 2008-2009 Total # Assigned

  4. Progress over the Last Five Years We have reduced the number of office referrals that our administrators and teachers are faced with by almost ½ in five years!

  5. So why should it matter? Less discipline means more time for instruction!

  6. Increasing the number of students without office discipline referrals 73% of LPSS students do not have any office referrals for this year!

  7. Are return from suspension conferences and other preventative measures (Saturday Intervention) working? Notice reductions in EVERY category of student suspensions!

  8. Reducing Exclusionary Practices:In school Suspension, Out of School Suspension & Recommended Expulsions Significant reductions in the categories of in and out of school suspensions & recommendations for expulsion

  9. Complimentary Practices: PBS and RtI Schools Implementing Primary PBS Schools Implementing Secondary PBS Schools Implementing Tertiary PBS

  11. LPSS Discipline Data is headed in the right direction • Growing best practices: School Wide Positive Behavior Support and Response to Intervention • District Policies (the Matrix) that support those preventative best practices
