Standardized Patient • An individual trained to portray a scripted patient role • Trained to record objectively and subjectively on what takes place in an encounter • Primary use: Teaching and evaluating basic clinical skills (history taking, physical examination, communication / interpersonal skills) • Feedback from the perspective of the patient

  4. Surgery Clerkship Event • 2 case formative event, not an exam • Up to 15 minutes to see the patient • Announcements • 7 minute bell warning at 8 minutes • 2 minute bell warning at 13 minutes • Door knock to end the session at 15 minutes

  5. Patient Information/ Student Instructions • Patient Name and Age • Current Complaint • Vital Signs • Required Tasks

  6. Universal Precautions • Please use all safety, comfort, modesty, and universal precautions that you would use with any patient.

  7. No breast pelvic or rectal exams will be performed on the exam patients

  8. Important Information • Please arrive 15 minutes prior to your scheduled time • Please bring your diagnostic equipment • Clipboard and paper will be provided for note-taking
