  1. The Earth and the Moon By Zane Williams

  2. Fast Facts About The Earth Third planet in our solar system The only planet (we know of) that can support life The planet we live on

  3. Fast Facts AboutThe Moon Earth’s natural satellite The only other body in space that humans have visited 12 people have visited the moon

  4. Gravity Moon Earth 1x Earth’s gravity You already know how much you would weigh! • 1/6 of Earth • If you weighed 60 lbs. on earth, you would only weigh 10 lbs. on the moon!

  5. Size • If the earth and Moon were next to each other, they would look like a tennis ball next to a basketball • The earth’s diameter is 12,742 km • The moon’s diameter is 3,474 km

  6. Landforms and Craters • On the moon, craters are common • On Earth, there are many landforms, but not many craters • There are some landforms on the moon

  7. Weathering and Erosion Earth Moon On the moon, there is no wind or water. So there is nothing to erode features, like footprints • Wind water and wind erode dirt, stone, soil, and other features • (This created the grand canyon!)

  8. Weather and Atmosphere Earth Moon Does not have an atmosphere Because of this, footprints and other things stay forever (until a meteor hits it) The moon has some water, but not enough to have weather • Has an atmosphere • Because of this , footprints and other things wear away • The earth has water, so weather such as rain, hail, snow, wind, tornadoes and so much more appears • This also has a factor on erosion

  9. Rotation and Orbit Times Earth Moon The Moon takes 29.5 days to orbit the earth The moon takes 27 days to rotate on its axis • The Earth takes 365 days to orbit the sun • The Earth takes 24 hours to rotate on its axis

  10. Other Cycles?? Seasons Tides The moons gravity on water causes some water to be pulled closer to the moon • The earth tilts on its axis, causing one hemisphere to get more direct sunlight
