Revision • All lessons now are dedicated to revision • All teachers will provide students with a schedule outlining the revision topics for that class • Students should bring along the required resources • If students know they are going to miss a lesson they should ensure they speak to their English teacher to get revision materials • Students should ensure they are completing all homework tasks

Exams • To Prepare: • Read non fiction texts (newspapers, leaflets, • Revise terminology for analysing writers’ craft and stylistic features • Don’t describe the text or retell the information • Consider writer’s language choices and their effect on the reader • Make sure you read the question carefully! • Proof read all work • Revise spelling, punctuation and grammar rules • Use of a plan to organise points into paragraphs • Revise key features of language for writing types • Use Individualised Action Plans • English Language GCSE/English GCSE 1 Exam – 2 hours 15 mins 40% 29/05/12 UNIT 1: Media and non-fiction • Reading Section • Writing Section

  6. Individualised Action Plan • All students have an individualised Action Plan based on their mock exam results • They will be vital in their revision schedule • They are personal to each student • They include targets for every section of every exam • Please encourage the use of them!

Exams • To Prepare: • Re read texts • Fully annotate poems in the Anthology • Create quotation banks for texts • Don’t retell the story! • Look at language used by the writer and its effect on the reader • Discuss the context of the novel (Of Mice and Men) • Find and read some poems and discuss what they are about • Use Individualised Action Plans • English Literature 2 Exams 75% UNIT 1: 22/05/12 Exploring Modern Texts (37.5%) 2hrs • The Crucible • Of Mice and Men Unit 2: 24/05/12 Poetry Across Time (37.5%) 1hr 15 mins • Anthology Poetry • Unseen Poetry

General revision • CGP / Collins revision guides available for all units on their website: www.cgpbooks.co.uk • www.bbc.co.uk/gcsebitesize - series of good revision activities on specific texts and papers; • www.aqa.org.uk – past papers and mark-schemes are available under assessment material section of English Language ‘A’ GCSE and English Literature ‘A’ GCSE (new)

Level 2 BTEC First Business– where we are now? • Pupils have completed 9 out of the 10 units in the course, and are currently in the process of undertaking unit 19 (the last unit to be covered). • From now until study leave in May, pupils will be concentrating on completing Unit 19, and ‘filling in the gaps’ of work that they have not managed to complete so far (Pass/Merit/Distinction) work.

  10. Level 2 BTEC First Business– how are we doing so far? • So far, pupils that are falling behind have been put onto an ‘action plan’ which the course leader reviews with them on a bi-weekly basis. • Those pupils who are still not coping on the action plan have had phone calls home. Parents have agreed to ‘after school catch up sessions’ in order to help support pupils to ensure they achieve a minimum of an overall pass grade.

  11. Level 1 BTEC Business – where are we now? • Of the 15 units included in the course, 13 have been completed so far, and 2 are currently being undertaken in lessons. • At the beginning of the next term pupils will be supported in lessons in order to ‘fill in the gaps’ of any work that they have not yet managed to complete. • No pupils are in need of an action plan.

  12. OCR National in ICT - where are we now? • Pupils have now covered 8 out of the total 11 units. • Pupilshave 3 further units to complete between now and May. Some pupils still have improvements to be made to a selection of units, with Unit 1 being the most crucial in terms of ensure GCSE grades are awarded

  13. OCR National in ICT - additional support • Staff are continuing to arrange lunch time and after school sessions to support the completion of Units 1, 5, 7, 8, 20 and 21. Some of these include 1:1 support. • It is essential that pupils attend at the time arranged – destination slips are often issued to remind pupils but the onus is on them to remember. • A support day during the Easter holidays is also being arranged. Pupils attending will be able to access specialist software and additional help from staff.

BTEC Health and Social Care Update • Pupils are expected to have completed 8 units by the end of the course. • Pupils are aware of where they are on the course as regular feedback is provided during lessons. • Some students are making good progress and meeting expectations.
