Speaker: Jonathon Savill • Many ways to work in media and communications • Work doesn’t have to be in only one area • Usually work/professional assignments cross boundaries – journalism to PR, PR to media, etc. • Today you’re writing hard news, tomorrow you may be writing the story for a fantasy film • Filmmakers make documentaries; documentarians turn into movie producers • Jonathon is from the UK; he has been doing all kinds of things in the UAE and Middle East

Before Session 3 next week • Prepare by going over Week 1, 2 readings in the Syllabus • Take notes – material may be in Week 8 Exam • Save information, references, titles that seem interesting – for presentation, paper, and/or essay • Come to class with comments about your reading • Come to class with observations about what journalism is doing in today’s society: bring examples • Bring Gulf Today or Al Khaleej
