  1. Gapped or Branched Attribute Check

  2. Gapped or branched attribute tool The gapped or branched attribute tool is a two part process. It checks NHDflowline features for gaps or branching in GNIS Names by using GNIS ID’s. The second part checks NHDFlowline features for gaps or branching in reachcodes.

  3. Add Tool Box

  4. ArcToolbox: NHD Tools Double click on gapped_or_branched_attribute_check

  5. Browse to Select Feature Class

  6. Select NHDFlowline in your personal geodatabase (mdb) Add

  7. Use drop down to select Character Field “GNIS_ID” OK

  8. Script dialog box: Successful completion Close Output – Same folder as your pgdb “1d_gob_gnis_id.dat” and “errnodes” Note: If you do not have any errors the table will not be created Note: You will not be able to see the .Dat file in Windows Explorer.

  9. Make GNIS fixes before running ReachCode check. When you run ReachCode check it will overwrite the GNIS errnode coverage.

  10. ArcMap: Add Data Files errnodes and 1d_gob_gnis_id.dat are in same folder as your pgdb Add

  11. Right click on 1d_gob_gnis_id.dat Joins and Relates Relate

  12. Populate table as shown below OK

  13. Right click on 1d_gob_gnis_id.dat Open attribute table

  14. Select record Options, Related Tables, 1d_gob_gnis_id:NHDFlowline

  15. Associated NHDFlowline Records are selected

  16. Change point symbology to size 15 on errnodes point file Double click on point symbol

  17. Zoom to selected records In this case the GNIS ID (and GNIS Name) is disconnected

  18. Example: Error from 1d_gob_gnis_id table…….. In this case the GNIS ID (and GNIS Name) is branched

  19. Resolve all errors in table

  20. ArcToolbox: NHD Tools Double click on gapped_or_branched_attribute_check

  21. Browse to Select Feature Class

  22. Select NHDFlowline in your personal geodatabase (mdb) Add

  23. Use drop down to select Character Field “ReachCode” OK

  24. Script dialog box: Successful completion Output – Same folder as your pgdb “1d_gob_reachcode.dat” and “errnodes” Close Note: If you do not have any errors the table will not be created

  25. Add “1d_gob_reachcode.dat” and “errnodes”

  26. Right click on 1d_gob_reachcode.dat Joins and Relates Relate

  27. Populate table as shown below OK

  28. Right click on 1d_gob_reachcode.dat Open attribute table

  29. Select record Options, Related Tables, 1d_gob_reachcode:NHDFlowline

  30. Associated NHDFlowline Records are selected

  31. Zoom to selected records In this case the ReachCode is disconnected

  32. Resolve all errors in table
