  1. Uconn Marching Band Information Management SystemStatus Report Harlan Broughton Stephen Link March 2, 2010

  2. Project Overview • What is the project about? Learning new technologies to create a usable IMS • Our goal: • To develop a fully-realized IMS for the UCMB that they may use daily to replace their current system

  3. Recap • The IMS is divided into six sections • Registration, Login • Data Access, Notification • Members-Only, Pep-band Scheduler • Also includes: • Even registration • Administrator media sharing

  4. Current Status • Progress since the previous milestone: • Completed? • No major breakthroughs nor setbacks • What issues have been resolved? • No real issues after installing proper tools • Hosting • Previously on gregn24.dyndns.org • On track? • Mostly

  5. Issues and Resolutions • Access to database • In progress. • The .bak file yields an error on any access attempt • Problem is with the formatting of the table and what the management tool expects

  6. Issues and Resolutions (2) • When trying to access Silverlight code, the .xap file only showed hex values in Visual Studio. • .xap is the Silverlight application package • Overlooked a specific Silverlight Developer Tools installation

  7. Timeline

  8. Looking Ahead • For Milestone 4 (March 31): • What are the expected deliverables? • Working site featuring media management • Known risks and issues • None for Milestone 4 • What are the immediate next steps? • Finalize hosting, fix problem with database integration

  9. Technology and Resources

  10. Visual Studio, WCF Windows Communication Foundation: Links SQL and Silverlight via WCFServices page

  11. Silverlight, C#, XML • C# the primary element, with Silverlight being the frontend and XML greasing behind the scenes • Silverlight tucked into existing designs:

  12. SQL Server • IMS database backup in a .bak • Using MS SQL Server Management Studio for convenient access
