2. The Transition Transitions are extremely important in a child’s life and we work hard to ensure we support all children in the best way we can. • We have a transition timetable to ensure a smooth and happy move into Key Stage One. • Transition photo books are made. • The new adults who will be working with your child visit them in their current classrooms. • The new class team have story sessions with their new class in their new rooms. • Opportunity to meet the teacher session at different times. • A picnic is arranged with the current Year One children.

3. The Transition • Monday 21st July – Reception children come into Ladybirds and Butterflies as normal. Year 1 staff work alongside the Reception team with the children. • End of the day Monday 21st July – Parents collect their child as normal and then walk around to their new class – Puffins or Robins. • Tuesday 22nd July – Children start the day in their new classes with Reception and Year 1 team working together to support all children settling. • Children spend all Tuesday and Wednesday in their new class.

4. The School Day Our classroom doors open at 8.30am. Registration is at 8.50am and lessons begin immediately after at 9.00am. The day ends at 3.05pm. Please support our Green Travel Policy, and walk, cycle and scooter to school.

5. Attendance and Punctuality • 95%-100% The Target is good to excellent • 90%-94% Satisfactory to good • 85%-89% Unsatisfactory – at this rate your child would miss a whole year of their primary schooling. • 80%-85% Poor – your child is at risk of underachieving • Below 80% Very poor - your child’s education would be seriously disrupted.

6. The Curriculum • The curriculum builds on that of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) • The children move from the EYFS into the National Curriculum- when they are ready. • Continue with a daily phonics, literacy and maths session. Guided reading will now be taught daily. • Provision and environment is similar at the beginning with many opportunities for children to lead their own learning indoors and outdoors. • There is an increase in whole class teaching sessions and adult focus activities.

7. Home Learning • Activities to support and enrich the work in school will include: Reading (books and ebooks), Spelling and Number practise, weekly cross curricular tasks or long term projects. Recommended links on school website. • Please hand in home learning on time (once a week). • Reading books will be changed once a week on given days (see classroom window). • Choice books can be changed as often as you like. • Parent meetings will be held each term to support you to support your child. Please come along.

8. Learning Review Days • These take place twice during the year. This is an opportunity for you to meet with your child’s teaching team and discuss your child’s progress. Your child will only attend the meeting on that day. All parties are expected to prepare for this very important meeting- advice on how to do this will be sent to you nearer the time. • Please let us know if you need an early or late appointment time. We can provide a letter for your employer should you need it.

9. YOUR CHILD NEEDS: • School uniform including black trainers • Indoor shoes (plimsolls) to change into • PE kit in a drawstring bag including navy shorts, dark plain tracksuit bottoms, and a yellow, green, white or red t-shirt (depending on your child’s house colours) Black trainers for outdoor P.E.- same pair as school shoes. • A book bag. To be in school everyday. • ALL YOUR CHILD’S BELONGINGS should be clearly labelled with your child’s name. • A water bottle labelled clearly with your name. • A healthy snack or 20p a day to buy a school snack
