  3. Morning Routine • Teachers will collect the class for registration at 8:45am. • Teachers will read to the children every morning before phonics. • Children should be ready for their phonics/comprehension lesson by 9:00am. • If children arrive after 8:45am they must be taken to class via the office who will mark them on the register.

  4. Curriculum • Newsletter contains this term’s Topics and gives an overview of what will be covered. • E-Safety • Basic Skills • Music with Mr Marcel

  5. Curriculum • English – A selection of stories focusing on developing, their story writing skills. The children will also be reciting and writing simple poems. Children will have a spelling test every Friday. • Maths – The children will be developing their understanding of place value. They will be applying their knowledge of tens and ones to solve real life problems. We will also be learning how to solve mental maths problems and will have a short mental maths test every Friday. • Science – The children will be focusing on animals and habitats. They will develop an understanding of things that are living, non-living and things that have never lived, food chains and animals. They will use their Science enquiry skills to carry out investigations in and out of class. Geography– The children will develop an understanding of the different countries and capital cities of the United Kingdom and develop their skills in reading and interpreting information from Atlases, globes and maps. • History – The children will develop their understanding of significant historical events, people and places in their own locality. They will also be learning about democracy and changes in national life – women’s’ votes. • Art– The children will be painting landscapes and will be taught about the work of English artists who paint landscapes and make links to their own work. • DT– Creating a Fruit Salad, write instructions and understand where food comes from and the basic principles of a healthy and varied diet. • Computing – Online – Safety: Hector’s World, communicate safely and respectfully online and how to keep personal information private. • RE – Understanding where the world comes from and how we should look after it. • PSHE (P4C) – developing the children’s active listening skills and understanding of living in the wider world. • Music – using their voices expressively by singing songs and speaking chants and rhymes

  6. Reading Reading Children should be reading every night. Please make sure that you comment on your child’s reading in their yellow reading records. Their books will be changed weekly. Children do a range of reading in school such as: Guided Reading (with the teacher), independent reading, Phonics/ Comprehension. PLEASE VISIT OUR SCHOOL LIBRARY AFTER SCHOOL, WHICH IS ON THE SECOND FLOOR TO ENCOURAGE READING.

  7. PE kits • House colours • Appropriate footwear • No earrings • Hairbands • Our PE lessons are on Monday and Wednesday. • Any child who does not have their PE Kit will receive a letter home.

  8. Attendance and Punctuality It is vital that children are in on time as this effects their phonics learning. Our Attendance target is 96%. Please inform the office if your child has an appointment during school hours or if your child will be absent. Please inform the office if someone else is collecting your child, so teachers and office staff are aware.

  9. General Information Book bags Children need to bring their book bag and reading books into school every day. Homework Homework will be handed out every Friday and is due back Thursday mornings. Uniform Please write your child’s name an all items of clothing. Any clothing found will be put in the lost property box. The School also sells the School uniform and book bags, please ask a member of staff if you would like to purchase any of these. Zips and laces Please ensure your child can zip up their own coat and do their laces independently.

  10. General Information Meetings If you would like to speak to a teacher or other member of staff, please ensure you arrange this before 8:45am or after 3:30pm each day. If you have any concerns please see staff in the office who will be able to pass on a message or arrange a suitable time for you.

  11. Homework Expectations Homework expectations • Children will have a spelling test every Friday based on the spellings they receive for homework. • Children will also have a mental maths test from the 5 a day maths book. • In your child’s homework book there will be a list of spellings which are what they need to know by the end of this year. Please feel free to slowly work through these if you wish. • Please ensure children are taking care of the presentation of their work. • Homework of the week – if your child has done very good work at home, this will be selected and displayed in class. Children will also get 2 dojo points for this.

  12. SATs • Reading Test • Spelling Test • Grammar and Punctuation Test • 2 Maths Papers • SATs will take place in May 2019 • A meeting for parents will be arranged closer to the time to discuss further details regarding SATs.

  13. Educational Visits • Wednesday 19th September 2018 – Lambourne End Visit • Termly visits will be arranged to support the children’s learning. • Some visits may entail a small cost. These costs are heavily subsidised by the school. • If you wish to provide lunch for your child please indicate on permission slips.

  14. Work Week • In the week 3rd December we will have our annual ‘Work Week’. • This year we would like to invite parents to come into school and talk about their work and what they do. • Please let class teachers know if you are able to do so.
