  2. Schedule • For COM 55 students, presentations will be on Tuesdays and Fridays • The detailed schedule will be posted very soon

  3. Procedures • Time • 1-hour time slot per presentation • 1st 30 minutes: Get organized, disseminate handouts/definition of key terms, etc. • 50-minute oral presentation • 10–minute question and answer period • All team members must be prepared to answer any question • Be on time - you will not get extra time if you start late because you weren’t ready

  4. Media • PowerPoint (or Transparency) required • The Department will provide an OHP(free) or LCD projector (for rent) • Make sure to reserve the unit at least a day before intended use with a request letter addressed to the Department Head.

  5. Content • No limit on the number of slides or transitions within slides • Use this prescribed slide template itself! • Use graphics, not just words • Show your system/block diagram/network architecture early • Text and figures/graphs must be readable at the back of the room • Limit the info on one slide

  6. Content • Talk must address the major sections of the topic • Technology Overview/Description • How it works • Major components • Advantages/Problems/Issues • Application/Implementation in the local setting(PLDT, GLOBE, SMART, BayanTel et al) • Summary

  7. Presentation • For the presentation, it is required to have all team members speak • All members must have a readable name tag • Bring a laser pointer • Use it only when necessary - they can be distracting • Talk to the audience, not the screen • Look at the laptop screen

Presentation • Make eye contact with the audience • Try not to block the audience’s view • DO NOT read the slides • DO NOT read from cards • It is fine to have them available for reference and to guide the presentation • Speak to the last row in the room • Do not count on having mic’s available

  9. Practice • Practice in front of your advisor(s) before the presentation • At the minimum, review the slides you intend to use • Practice among yourselves as many times as you can stand

  10. Grading • Content - High score for: • Addresses all specified content areas. • Material abundantly supports the topic. • Use of engineering terms and jargon matches audience knowledge level.

  11. Grading • Visuals – High score for: • Text is easily readable. • Graphics use constantly supports the presentation. • Slide composition has a professional look that enhances the presentation

Grading • Presentation Skills - High score for: • Clearly heard and polished. • Attitude indicates confidence and enthusiasm. • Audience attention is constantly maintained. • Organization - High score for: • Information presented in logical and interesting sequence that the audience can easily follow.

  13. Grading • Handling of Questions - High score for: • Demonstrates full knowledge of the material; can explain and elaborate on expected questions.
